Hippocrates said over 2,000 years ago “Health begins in the gut”. Due to the commonality of gut problems, and the problems caused by gut dysfunction that may seem unrelated, we are starting to realize how true his statement is. In fact, many researchers believe that supporting intestinal health and restoring the integrity of the gut barrier will be one of the most important goals of medicine in the 21st century (1).

Why are so many problems related to digestive health ?

These ailments are largely caused by the “food” we consume. Simply stated- our “food” is not the food that our digestive systems were designed to handle.

Think of your body as a vehicle, you wouldn’t want to put diesel in your car that runs on gasoline. It may run, but it wouldn’t run properly and would suffer from long-term implications. Similarly, our bodies will run on processed food but they won’t run as well as they would if we were given the proper fuel.

With so many people surviving, but certainly not thriving, we definitely want to address these digestion issues.

Here at the Vitality Center we begin by taking a good look at our patient’s diet and nutrient intake, or lack thereof. The first step towards improvement is eliminating the most common food allergens and toxins, then we see if their symptoms improve. Spoiler alert: they do. In fact we bare witness to so much improvement when we give the body a break from toxic food substances that usually this solves the problem completely. If that wasn’t enough, our patient’s energy improves, symptoms dwindle away, and the desire to eat unhealthy foods gradually subsides. So begins the transformation of surviving to thriving.

If you are suffering from digestion issues start by eliminating inflammatory foods:

  • Gluten & Grains
  • Industrial seed oils: canola, vegetable, soybean, sunflower, safflower, etc.
  • Refined sugar
  • Dairy
  • Soy
  • Corn

These are probably the most toxic to our gut and our health in general.

If you can eliminate these for one month with no cheating, you will feel a difference!
